Wishbone Bike
66Wishbone Bike
Learning to ride a bike is the most memorable memory of childhood. The Wishbone Balance Bike will be with the child from the time he is one-year-old, and up to the time he is five years. This is a remarkable bike which is a companion to the child throughout its learning years. Wishbone bike is actually three bikes packed into one and goes from being a tricycle to a full-fledged balance running bike.
The concept of a balance bike is quite old and though simple it is very effective as a pre-bike. A balance bike has no pedals or chain for motive power and the child has to push it with its feet for momentum. The child first learns to walk with the bike and then taking few steps learns to ride the bike for a some seconds. During that short duration it will start to learn to keep its balance and also coordinate its other movements. This learning process will progress fast and the child will then run with the bike to give it adequate momentum so that it can ride the bike for a longer duration. By that time it would have gained the confidence and the skill to retain balance for a much longer time. A balance bike is considered the best way to learn balancing and afterwards the child does not require balancing wheels on a bicycle. Actually balancing wheels are found to be a hindrance in the learning process and actually takes more time for the child to learn to balance compared to the child who has spent time on a balance bike.
When the child is only 1 year old it requires a trike to get used to riding. The Wishbone bike considered to be the ultimate as a pre-bike is able to convert into a trike. As the child grows older the third wheel can come off and it becomes the typical balance bike. The Wishbone Bike is so named because of the shape of its frame. Although a very simple design it is very versatile and capable of converting into three totally three different types of bikes. After the child has grown to about three years the main frame can be fitted inversely to make it much more bigger, to suit the height of the child.
The Wishbone Bike frame is made from good quality wood sourced from different plantations which are managed to be sustainable. The design and finish of the bike is geared to provide maximum safety to the child, and also the materials used are non-toxic and at the same time very durable. The wheels are made from plastic which is recycled and the glue and other bonding material is all eco-friendly and non-toxic. Care has been taken in the packing material as well, and the box is made from recycled paper and all printing is done using inks which are non-toxic.
The Wishbone bike was initially designed in New Zealand and is still considered the most versatile and best learning bike in the world.

You need to add Strider to your list. It's the lightest, one of the least expensive, and (in my opinion) best balance (pre-) bikes out there today. See www.youtube.com/watch?v=NVqHOMo2eW0
