So it is no wonder that they employ a host of methods such as pressing combs, high powered hair dryers, flat irons and chemical relaxers. Additionally they use over-the-counter hair colors and other chemicals which contain harmful glycols, alcohols, silicones, sulphates and cancer producing parabens.

Here are several ideas for achieving the right look without harming your hair:

* Once in two and half to three months snip off about half an inch of your hair ends

* Braiding helps hair growth provided it’s not too tight

* Try to reduce the use of hair-dos that cause excessive stress to your hair and retard growth. These could be hard gel styles, extensions that have been glued on and tight cornrows

* Get yourself a natural hair brush

* Don’t use the flat iron more than a couple of times monthly

* Consider using natural hair products and shampoos

* Do your best not to colour your hair

Your right we need to learn how to take care of our hair without harming it and teach our children. There is a book at Amazon called "Hair Care for African American and Biracial Hair" worth checking out. It's cheap too and made a difference in how I take care of my hair. I will vote this up!
