Cooking Live Lobster

I don't know about you, but I LOVE live lobster.  I love everything about lobster.  But I especially love the taste of the lobster with its sweet taste and the smell of the lobster with the smell of the sea.  Cooking live lobster is a treat for everyone involved.  It is a time to explore a premium meal that everyone is not able to enjoy.

Did you know that over 60 million lobsters were caught off of the coast of Maine in 2002 and the pilgrims considered lobster to be a "poor man's food".  I know they will shocked by the prices today!!!

Today, lobster is definitly not poor mans food.  Go into any Red Lobster and you will find lobsters on the menu for prices reaching $25 to $35 dollars depending on the pounds of the lobster.  At those prices most people don't get to enjoy the taste of lobster till they become much older in life.  That is a shame, lobster should be enjoyed by all as soon as possible in life.

Cooking live lobster also varies.  Some peole will not cook lobster any way except as to steam a lobster.  I have heard comment say that steaming was the only way anyone should enjoy lobster.  But that is just not true.  Lobster can be enjoyed a number of other ways.  Grilled is a common way to enjoy lobster tails.  The meat takes on a smokey flavor that enhances the already sweet taste.  Baking is another way of cooking lobster.  Most people chose to bake lobster when they stuff the lobster with crab meat or some other stuffing.  I personally love stuffed baked lobster.  Frying lobster is another way to enjoy lobster.  It is usually fried when putting together a lobster bake.

Lobster can be enjoyed a number of ways.  Either way the lobster comes out just as sweet with a taste that just explodes in your mouth.

Grilled Lobster Tails

As I explained in the introduction grilled lobster is a perfect way to cook a lobster.  It adds another flavor element to the mix that improves the taste of the lobster 100%.

Preparing the fire for cooking is an important part before you put the tails on the grill.  You want to make sure you go to the store and buy some hickory sticks to burn within the fire on the grill.  You also want a grill that has a smoking element.  A grill with a hood is fine.  Not only do you want the grill to cook the meat but you also want the meet to gain some of that smoke taste.

Buy shelf lighting charcoal.  This is also very important.  Don't us lighter fluid on the coals.  The lighter fluid will burn off and you will get a gas taste to the meat.  Add the hickory sticks to the charcoal and light each of them.  Let the flames die down and go ahead an put the lobster tails onto the grill.

Cook each side of the lobster tails until they turn orange in color and start to curl up.  Also, cook the exposed meat letting the tail stand up.  It should only take 15 to 20 minutes to cook the tails if that.

Now take the tails off and crack them open for dinner.

Steamed Lobster

Steamed lobster is the most common way to cook live lobsters.  It is very easy to steam a lobster.  All it takes is about 2 cups of water, salt and a deep pot.  Let the water come to a broil and dip you lobster into the water.  Let the lobster cook for 10 minutes or until it turn orange or pink and the lobster is done.

Take the lobster out with a pair of tongues and place the lobster onto a place for presentation.  You may want to also back some potatos and have a good glass of wine near by to accompany the meal.

Prepare some butter for dipping by putting to sticks of butter into a pot.  Let the pot get nice and hot before dropping the butter into it.  Put the 2 stick into the pot and stur until the sticks milt.  Turn the heat off and pour the butter into a side bowl for dipping.

Now, just get your tools for cracking and pulling the meat out and enjoy!
