Black Hair Wigs - Why Are Women Choosing To Wear Wigs
By Jezzzz
Black Hair Wigs
Black hair wigs are a trend that is continuing to grow among African American women. Custom wigs are available that can be measured to fit your scalp and even cut and coloured they way you specify. Most wigs are used only as a tool, while having healthy hair under them.
Most women use wigs as a safe way to test looks out before making permanent cutting or colouring decisions. There are also many women who work in professional and corporate environments and therefore don’t have the freedom to try out any drastic hairstyles or colours for a weekend night out. A wig solves this problem as they can change their look for the weekend and go back to work with something less radical on Monday morning.

Wig Trends
There are quite a few wig trends that are making the rounds, and they are usually started by African American celebrities who sport the style. One such trend is the short, geometric hairstyle. These wigs are quite fashionable and new to the market. They have thin hair, or very little hair, and incorporate a large amount of precision styling into the look. They make you look like you’ve had a very expensive haircut.
More and more wigs are also being used to show off a more natural black hair look. These wigs sport the African American type of hair, but also play around with some curls and other forms.
Lacefront wigs are popular with women who suffer from alopecia or lose their hair due to chemotherapy. The adhesive used when securing lace front wigs can be damaging to your hair if it is not used properly. Getting a professional to apply it first is highly recommended. More and more wearers of lacefront wigs are having their heads measured these days so that the wigs fit better.
Maintaining wigs is an important part of wearing them, and proper care needs to be taken when it comes to the wigs as well as your hair. Wigs with longer hair are easy to maintain. The only thing you need to watch out for is wool clothing. If these wigs rub against wool then the fibers that make up the wig can be irritated and break. Pinning up long hair wigs is best if you’re going to be wearing wool.
There are many shampoos and conditioners that you can use on wigs and these are particularly important for synthetic wigs. Avoid products which contain a lot of mineral oils or petroleum, as well as heavy products. This is because they tend to overwhelm the shaft and cuticle of the hair. They also attract dust, thus making the wig lose its shine.
Using thermal styling tools on wigs is ok, but it is recommended to keep the heat below 350 degrees if possible, especially on synthetic wigs. It is best to avoid direct heat on wigs if this is possible. It is a better idea to use steam rollers, a round brush and a steamer if you’re trying to add volume and curls while wearing a synthetic wig.
